Message from the Pastor
I am the pastor at Salem UMC and I feel priviledged to be a part of the rich heritage of ministry that has occurred here since 1847.  I know that many of you who may be reading this are people who are looking for a church to call home.  Salem prides itself on being just that.  The front of our worship bulletin states, "It's a Place You Can Come Home To."  In a day and age when many people live in communities where they do not know their neighbor, I invite you heartily to consider worshiping with a people who take seriously what it means to be "in community" with one another.     Grace and Peace.                                                                                        Rev. History
When Mr. John Ball laid out the town of Ballwin in 1837, he designated a site for a Methodist Meeting House. A congregation was officially founded in 1847 and met in a small log building. By 1855, the congregation built a small white frame building that not only served as a church but also was the first and only school in Ballwin until 1869. A brick sanctuary was constructed in 1870 at a cost of $4,500. That same structure, now listed as a landmark by the St. Louis County Historic Buildings Survey, is still used today for weekly worship. Expansions and additions to the building were made in 1950, 1958, and 1989 to keep pace with the growth of the congregation. Today, Salem Church continues its long tradition of serving the surrounding community.
